What does Social Bite do?
At Social Bite, we design and deliver systemic interventions to end homelessness, across three key areas — food, homes, and jobs.
Homelessness is a complex issue, and it’s much more than just rough sleeping. But solutions exist, and they’re most powerful when part of a whole-system approach bringing different groups and organisations together.
How we approach it
Food
Anyone can access free, freshly-made food and hot drinks at our coffee shops, no questions asked. People experiencing homelessness or food poverty are also welcome at our weekly sit‑in meals and special Christmas services for great food and lively company. In places where we don’t have a coffee shop, we partner with grass-roots organisations to provide a warm welcome, free food and much needed support to people who are vulnerable or experiencing homelessness in local communities all across the UK.
Homes
Our Social Bite Village in Edinburgh gives people who are experiencing homelessness a stable base, in a small and vibrant community; we’re working to replicate this model in other parts of Scotland and ultimately roll it out UK-wide. Through our pioneering work, we also changed the way 27 Scottish local authorities approach housing for the most vulnerable.
Jobs
Our UK-wide Jobs First programme helps people who are affected by homelessness find meaningful work in a supported setting. Each person gets a fair wage and on-the-job training over a 15-month period, with ongoing, trauma-informed support to help them succeed.
